Emily Sigmund
Yoga Teacher
Emily Sigmund is a 200 hour RYT with a passion for facilitating classes that are accessible to everyone. Her journey to yoga was not linear. She tried yoga many times throughout her teens and twenties, but didn’t think it was for her. She had a hard time getting through an hour-long class - negative thoughts, comparisons, judgements and restlessness would creep in. She couldn’t do the poses like others and she found that discouraging.
Then she sustained an injury when training for a triathlon and discovered she had scoliosis and a leg length discrepancy. The more she tried to ignore the pain or do only the bare minimum to help herself heal, the worse her pain became. She expected her body to perform, but she wasn’t caring for herself on a basic level. That’s when she turned back to yoga.
Through yoga she has learned how to take better care of her whole self. How to listen to her body. How to use the props offered in class to modify the poses to suit her. She learned that yoga, self-care and chronic pain management are a practice, not something to be perfected.
